Hoxton Farms submits regulatory dossier for cultivated fat in Singapore
London, UK and Singapore – 4 November 2025 – Hoxton Farms, the UK-based pioneer of cultivated fat, has submitted its first ever regulatory dossier to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) for approval to commercialise its cultivated pork fat in Singapore.
This submission marks a major milestone for Hoxton Farms and its expansion in Asia. Singapore, the first country in the world to approve cultivated meat for sale, continues to set the benchmark in food innovation and safety regulation. Hoxton Farms is now becoming part of this pioneering ecosystem driving the future of food.
Collaborative effort, world-class expertise
The submission was overseen by Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Vítor Espírito Santo, who previously led the world’s first regulatory approval for cultivated meat in Singapore. Bringing together expertise across cell biology, AI and bioprocess engineering, Hoxton Farms has developed a patented, low-capex biomanufacturing platform that redefines how stem cells can be grown at scale.
Hoxton Fat is real pork fat, grown from stem cells. This submission represents a new category of functional ingredient designed to make food more delicious, healthier and resilient.
“It’s a privilege to return to Singapore with a new generation of cultivated products,” said Dr. Vítor Espírito Santo, Chief Scientific Officer. “Our cultivated fat isn’t just about delivering delicious taste. It’s a healthier, more resilient and sustainable ingredient that can strengthen food systems worldwide. This submission reflects the extraordinary work of our team and the real progress Hoxton Farms has made in the biomanufacturing technologies needed to make that future possible.”
Building the future of biomanufacturing and ingredients
Hoxton Fat offers food manufacturers a delicious, scalable and future-proof alternative to conventional animal fat. Designed for use in meat products, Hoxton Fat delivers the taste and performance of animal fat with better nutrition, a more reliable supply chain and a fraction of the environmental footprint.
Hoxton Farms has developed a commercially viable biomanufacturing process with a derisked, asset-light path to scale,” said Dr. Max Jamilly, co-founder and CEO of Hoxton Farms. “This milestone marks the start of our regulatory journey, with many more submissions ahead as we bring cultivated fat to market across APAC and worldwide.”
Hoxton Farms plans to pursue additional regulatory submissions in the UK, North America and Asia over the coming months. Hoxton Farms were selected for the Food Standards Agency’s Cell-Cultivated Products Sandbox in England and Wales in 2025.
Singapore: pioneering regulatory pathways in Asia
Singapore has established itself as a global hub for cultivated meat and food innovation, combining scientific excellence with a forward-thinking and collaborative regulatory environment. The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) was the world’s first regulator to approve cultivated products and remains a global leader, with approvals to date including cultivated chicken, quail, and pet food, setting the global benchmark for science-based food regulation. Its transparent and supportive framework enables innovators to demonstrate the safety, quality and benefits of this new generation of ingredients. Hoxton Farms is proud to work with the SFA as part of this world-leading ecosystem.
In a world facing increasing pressure on food supply chains, Singapore imports over 90% of its food supply, leaving it and many other countries exposed to disruptions. At the same time, rising tariffs and trade uncertainty are reshaping global agriculture, and climate-driven weather shocks are expected to drive food price inflation by up to 1.8 percentage-points annually.
Singapore has shown how investment in resilient, localised food systems can strengthen national security and economic stability. Its proactive approach to supporting innovation in sustainable protein and biomanufacturing provides a model for how countries can future-proof their food supply while driving economic growth.
Coordinated by Dr. Joe Taylor, Head of Innovation, the submission reflects years of R&D, process validation and safety testing by Hoxton Farms’ team.
“Submitting our first regulatory dossier is an exciting and defining moment for Hoxton Farms,” said Dr Joe Taylor. “Singapore’s leadership in food innovation has set a global standard and we’re looking forward to working closely with the SFA to bring cultivated fat to consumers safely and responsibly.”
